“Lexugaz Shalom” from South America, one of the Chilean teams in the 20th Intelligent Ironman Creative Competition, gave a fun and exciting performance. They were voted as the top team and won the Creative Jubilating Award. They took the stage again during dinner time to a standing ovation, already leaving many happy and unforgettable memories before the final.

But as early as last semester, “Lexugaz Shalom” taking classes at different universities, and Martin said they had taken classes from different teachers in different subjects, such as product design and development, as well as the basics of chips and programming, to help them adapt quickly to the official competition in order to do well.

During the official competition, every time we passed by the “Lexugaz Shalom” classroom from afar, we could hear them laughing and everyone passing by could be inspired by their joyful atmosphere. After many days together, a lot of interesting things happened in the team, Simón shared, “Some of us sleep with eyes open. it’s crazy and a little bit strange!” And everyone looked at Martin in unison. Axel, the captain of the team, has been called a “father” by the members of another Chilean team, “Ñublense”. Axel says that he always cares about everyone and keeps the team calm, thinking and discussing efficiently.

Axel says, the team divides up the different academic subjects among everyone so that they can all gain expertise. Simón also says that knowing each person’s strengths and weaknesses allows them to complement each other. In fact, everyone in “Lexugaz Shalom” specializes in their own subjects; Emilia enjoys art, chemistry and biology; Simón is familiar with mechanics, such as physics and science; Felipe specializes in mathematics and has excellent logic skills; Tobias has a generalist’s skill set but is good at geography; and Axel has a special interest in industrial design and engineering. Axel is particularly good at industrial design and engineering.

But Martin, who has a gift for language, says hilariously, “I also know how to do very good voices, which has helped the team stay together and has helped everyone laugh a little bit.”. Martin says they’ve always been prepared for 72 hours of non-stop challenge, so they’ve already predicted that communication won’t be perfect. He was pleasantly surprised by the team’s performance, saying that none of the team members ever had a problem communicating as a team, and that “I say that it’s been going very, very smooth”.

In the end, “Lexugaz Shalom” shared that their favorite contest is “Cosmic Protector”, which not only requires them to use mathematical calculations, but also tests their team’s physical strength. The Chilean team met new friends from all over the world, experienced unique cultures, and spent the August days feeling the warmth of summer, which is different from what they are used to.
